LINUX SERVERS AND NETWORKING
LINUX SERVERS
Our servers provide the following benefits:
Authentication based networking with username / password logon access.
Users log on to the network using the standard Windows 9X/NT network login box using a username and
password. If this is not done successfully no access to the network is allowed so your files are protected
from unauthorised access.
Centralised file storage with controlled access.
Files are stored on the server and access is granted depending on the user's username. Files can be stored so
that only one user can access them or so that some or all users can access them. Files can be controlled by
a single user or by multiple users.
Some examples:
File1 belongs to user1 - Only user1 can access the file.
File2 belongs to user1 - Any user can read the file, print it etc. Only user1 can modify it.
  File3 belongs to user2 - User2 and user1 can access the file but user3 can't.
File4 belongs to everybody - Anybody can do whatever they want with it.
Centralised files are easily backed up for added safety.
Printer sharing across the network.
Printers can be shared with the same flexibility as files i.e. controlled access. Users can print to any printer
regardless of whether any particular PC is running.
Enhanced network browsing.
Experience shows that many small companies have trouble accessing their peer to peer networks. This is often
because the network is always changing as PC's are switched on and off. Windows clients have trouble keeping
track of this unless a server does it for them. Using one of our servers centralises the browsing process so that all
PC's know where to find the network browse list (the list of computers on the network).
