LINUX SERVERS AND NETWORKING
WEB APPLICATIONS
Web based information sharing.
The paper based directory.
Most companies do not share their information effectively. A simple example is a company telephone directory. Most companies have a
paper based system with out of date, amended lists on every desk. Once every couple of months (years?) someone updates the list
and distributes new copies.
The better way.
By combining several Internet derived technologies we are able to design intra-net web sites that allow people to share information
which is centralised and up to date. The administration of the information can be centralised (one person responsible for
maintaining it) or distributed (each person controls the records they have added). The addition of new entries can likewise be
centralised or distributed.
An example site.
Click the picture below to pop up a new window with an example site. Log on to the site twice, once as a normal user and once as
a superuser so that you can compare the differences. Please note that this site is open to the public so your changes will be
deleted the next time someone accesses this page.
